默克的硅胶正相板采用silica 60为原料并使用的聚合技术，使其具有整体坚硬的表面。光滑及覆盖紧密的表面确保其拥有的分离效果。标准的玻璃板的涂层厚度为250μm，而铝薄板的厚度为200μm，填料粒径为10-12μm。

对于分析紫外吸收没有颜色的物质，可以选用含以下两种荧光物质的薄层板：显绿色的F254和显蓝色的F254s。这两种指示剂在UV254nm的激发波长下会显示荧光。高亮度板Lux Plates中含有更多量的荧光指示剂，从而有利于进一步鉴别所分离的物质。

应用实例

约80%的薄层色谱法都可以用正相硅胶薄层板来建立。他可以完成各种不同的分离工作，如生物碱、糖类化合物、脂肪酸、糖苷、油脂、毒枝菌素、核苷、多肽、杀虫剂、固醇、磺胺类**、表面活性剂、四环素等。
